BlueStacks Gets Financial Backing, Enables Android Apps on PC

BlueStacks, an app player maker for Windows, has recently closed a strategic investment deal by major industry players including AMD, Citrix Systems and other investors. This investment is received as a part of Series B round of funding, and has taken the total investment in the company to $14M. The amount will be used by BlueStacks to accelerate product development and support its ever-growing user community.

“By enabling the user experience across different operating systems and device architectures, BlueStacks has become an integral part of the strategy of large players in the device and operating system ecosystem,” says Frank Artale, managing director, Ignition Partners. “Having the support of a major industry leader in virtualization and cloud like Citrix, as well as major semiconductor leaders like AMD and others, is a true testament to how much progress the company has made in a short time.”

What makes this deal interesting is that this will enable users to run their favorite Android apps without an Android device; rather they will be able to run these apps on their PC. The developers at BlueStacks have developed a program that will let you do this, and its test version is now available for download. This public alpha version of BlueStacks software has already been downloaded by users in more than 100 countries. While its beta version is scheduled to arrive this winter season, we may see the Pro version by end of the year.

With debut of this program, BlueStacks has become the first company to enable Android apps on big screen desktops and all-in-one PCs, which is a really big thing for the company. Besides this program, the company is also working on several other products and releases. Amidst all this, the investors are also optimistic about BlueStacks’ performance. Here’s what Manju Hegde, corporate vice president, AMD Fusion Experience Program has to say on this:

“BlueStacks has developed a technology that many might describe as truly game-changing. Best of all, it works seamlessly with AMD APU-powered tablets and PCs, meaning that Android apps can leverage the full horsepower and superior discrete graphics capabilities of the APU on a wide range of x86-based systems running Windows and the full suite of Microsoft Office applications for a brilliant computing experience.”

This program launch by BlueStacks has created a big opportunity for the company to tap the massive potential of PC market, especially from users who do not own an Android phone but want to use their favorite apps. This clearly shows that the BlueStacks is now targeting consumers and doing great in it!
