Todd Papaioannou in theCube: “Cloud and Big Data are the two mega-trends of this decade”

Todd Papaioannou, an Entrepreneur in Residence at Battery Ventures, with SiliconANGLE CEO John Furrier and Wikibon founder Dave Vellante on theCube at the Hadoop World 2011.

During the interview, Papaioannou stated that there are two mega-trends for this decade and that’s cloud and big data while in the past it was SRA applications and virtualization.

According to Papaioannou, “Cloud is a way of how you deliver business application and you put a cloud fabric in place and there’s a lot of stuff going on underneath that fabric.  People running applications shouldn’t have to care about any of that stuff.”

Papaioannou sees that in this decade there will be more innovations and exotic configurations in the data center going on underneath that fabric while above the fabric, applications will be rolled out much more quickly, dynamically more elastically.  But Papaioannou sees that Big Data is the most interesting thing going on above the cloud fabric.  He sees data applications to being more real-time data applications.

As for the disruption in the dataspace, Papaioanou sees it but he also sees that it is complementary.  Before, unstructured data were trashed since no one seems to have a clue as to what to do with them but now, the same unstructured data are being utilized to better understand consumers since the bulk of these unstructured data were generated by them.
