DotCloud announced that its cloud management platform now supports three of the most popular databases used in cloud deployments: MySQL, MongoDB and Redis, a relatively new NoSQL database.

DotCloud was founded in 2010 and launched less than half a year ago with support for 12 languages and databases. The company offers a platform-as-a-service to simplify the whole process of managing different technology stacks by providing a single interface from which developers can carry out related tasks. This provides advantages such as unified scaling, and comes in addition to a great deal of automation that further consolidates the system and removes some of the weight on the developer’s back.

With DotCloud PaaS, we remove the fear of critical failure for you entire stack and elevate the focus on performance, availability and innovation, “ said Solomon Hykes, the chief exuective officer of DotCloud.

There are a few other startups that are innovating in the PaaS space as well, including ActiveState. The company recently rolled out an update to Stackato, a PaaS based on VMware’s open-source Cloud Foundry that’s designed to provide users the flexibility of extending and customizing stacks. The main addition was the Stackato Admin Dashboard monitoring and visibility tool.

Mobile development platform Appcelerator has also been riding this wave. It raised $15 million today from Mayfield Fund, Translink Capital, and Red Hat among others in Nov. 1. The company plans on using the capital to expand beyond North America to the Asian and European markets.
