SolidFire Hires Former Xiotech Exec as New Head of Sales

SSD storage systems maker SolidFire announced it has appointed Mark Glasgow as its new Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Glasgow has served in executive sales and maangment positions for 20 years, and joins the company from Xiotech where he worked as vice president of sales for the past six years. During his tenure Xiotech (now Xio), he has seen its sales revenue increase by an impressive 80 percent.

“Our pipeline is growing, and Mark’s appointment will help us continue to respond to customer interest with a sales team that can support our growth. We are pleased to have him here at SolidFire; I know that his industry expertise and relationships are going to be extremely important for us in the coming months,” said Dave Wright, SolidFire founder and CEO.

SolidFire is growing its core management team after a $25 million funding round earlier this month. Existing investors New Enterprise Associates, Valhalla Partners and Novak Biddle Venture Partners participated in the round.

The flash market is growing, thanks to the growing demand the main players are seeing from companies that are looking to boost their IT infrastructure with SSDs. Fusion-io definitely belongs to the list of market leaders in this area, and it has built up more than enough momentum to live up to this title.

The company reported GAAP revenue of $74.4 million for the first quarter of fiscal year 2012, or 175 percent more than a year ago, and a net profit of $7.2 million compared to a net loss of $5.8 million.

Not long after its earnings call Fusion filed papers with the SEC to sell $100 worth of its own stock. Its shareholders are also chipping in, bringing another $250 million to the market.
