Wyse Expands Mobile Strategy with Latest Buy

Thin client provider Wyse announced it has acquired Trellia for an undisclosed amount. Trellia offers a cloud-based mobile management platform, and its portfolio fits in rather nicely with Wyse’s mobile approach. The company’s Wyse PocketCloud app has gained a lot of popularity across Android and iOS, meaning this latest deal will be leveraged to further flesh out this success.

“Trellia’s cloud-based policy, compliance, app and device management portfolio delivers the complete endpoint protection for customers, further extending the security benefits already offered through Wyse’s cloud client computing portfolio.

Wyse says it will use Trellia’s assets to simplify the management of end-point devices and subsequently drive down operational costs. This primarily applies to security and policy management and enforcement in corporate networks, among other things.

The company plans to implement the SaaS model extensively to achieve the simplicity and cost-efficiency they’re aiming for, according to Tarkan Maner, President and CEO of Wyse, who also said they’ll be making important partnerships along the way.

That was one of the goals behind the cloud platform provider’s participation at the Cisco Collaboration Summit in Miami a week ago. Cisco is an existing partner but the two have been constantly strengthening their relationship, most recently with the debut of the latest version of Wyse PocketCloud. The release introduced support for Cisco Cius, the networking firm’s Android-powered enterprise tablet, and the app has been made available via the Cisco AppHQ.

Wyse’s goals around user virtualization and mobility are very ambitious. Maner visited theCube earlier this year and spoke extensively about his company’s perception of consumer hardware: the desktop computer is getting out of fashion fast, according to him, and Maner hopes Wyse will be able to capitalize on this growing gap with its offerings.
