This Holiday’s Mobile Shopper: Infographic

Holiday shopping has become a tradition that we have lived through over the years. But the shopping landscape has certainly changed, with countless options of convenience that cater to our holiday shopping needs. Things got comfortable when online retailing came around, and with mobile devices all but taking over human civilization, web shopping is kicking it up a notch this holiday.

According to Zippycart, 70 percent of people who own tablets will use their devices to make purchases through e-commerce solutions.  The smartphone is an especially important too  for customers to find products, read reviews, redeem coupons.  A consumer can find store locations, and see how long it will take them to get there.  In fact, Accenture says 43 percent of holiday shoppers are likely to use their mobile device to check if they can find a cheaper deal during in-store shopping.  These multichannel shoppers are expected to grow by 22 percent this year alone.

“We do see quite a lot of people truly mixing the two, doing both online and bricks-and-mortar shopping, and accessing the Internet via the phone, and doing a lot more online shopping or comparative shopping that way,” said Dana Davis, co-owner of Tucson-based Summit Hut.

People are also expected to spend more this holiday season compared to last year, but they’re also more likely to carefully consider their spending patterns. This is why they will turn to e-commerce solutions to find cheaper deals.  Online retailers such as Amazon are expected to increase their traffic in the next two months.

We also have interesting results from a survey conducted by JiWire. Of all goods, entertainment (which includes books, music and movies) are the top sellers online, followed by travel, airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rental etc.), and then electronics. People prefer shopping on their tablets than smartphones, majority (68 percent) of them said they are willing to spend up to $250 in online shopping while only 18 percent said they are comfortable laying away over $500.

Male shoppers take advantage of online shopping more than women, accounting for 59 percent and 41 percent respectively. Those in the age range of 45-54 are the biggest fans of online shopping.  Of those surveyed, 15 percent prefer to shop online, 22 percent prefer to shop on physical stores, while 63 percent are comfortable with both.
