OnLive Cloud Gaming Goes Mobile

OnLive, the cloud gaming platform that synchronizes, renders, and stores games on remote servers and delivers them via the Internet, announced the availability of their app for tablets and mobile devices.  The app allows gamers to play the latest high-performance games on their mobile devices which were previously limited to only consoles and computers.  The free OnLive app reaches over 500 million mobile devices, delivering games over Wi-Fi or mobile networks in the US and UK.

Noire—one of the most highly acclaimed, graphically sophisticated games to date—with exclusive OnLive Cloud Touch controls or with the new mobile-compatible Universal OnLive Wireless Controller. Tablets and smartphones, the fastest-growing consumer product categories in history, are now capable of running the hottest, highest-end games. Gaming and mobile devices will never be the same.”

Gamers can choose from over 25 OnLive titles, including L.A. Noire, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and 5-7, like Defense Grid Gold,as well as most of the 200 games in OnLive’s growing library, including recent top-tier releases like Batman: Arkham City, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Lord of the Rings: War in the North.

The OnLive app can now be downloaded from the Android Market for free.  It requires at least Android 2.3 Gingerbread.  the app has been tested on the following devices:  Acer Iconia Tab A500, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, HTC Evo View, HTC Flyer, HTC Jetstream, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Sony Ericsson Tablet S, Toshiba Thrive, HTC EVO, HTC Nexus One, HTC Rezound 4G, HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL, Motorola Droid 2, Motorola Droid X2, Motorola DROID BIONIC 4G, Motorola DROID RAZR 4G, Motorola Photon 4G, Samsung Galaxy S II 4G.

It is recommended that the Universal OnLive Wireless Controller be used for maximum gaming experience and it has been found compatibel with the folowing devices: Acer Iconia Tab A500, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Toshiba Thrive.  The controller is priced at $49.99 and will be available in the US market on December 9.

Since it is cloud-based, you can enjoy continuous gaming from your computer to your tablet, no data loss or stages to be repeated if a gamer chooses to transfer from one platform to another.

The OnLive app will be available on more mobile platforms and devices in the near future.

OnLive’s senior director of engineering, Bruce Grove, has been appointed as OnLive UK’s general manager.
