Holiday Cheer with Skype’s Free WiFi

‘Tis the season of giving. And even businesses around the tech sphere know this too. Apart from taking advantage of the holiday rush and boosted consumer demands, several companies try to return the favor through different projects and offerings. Most common among these seasonal sort-of-gifts by tech organizations include freebies, donations and discounts. Here are some:

Free WiFi Season for Skype, eBay

Skype lets you connect with friends and family even while you are travelling, thanks to free WiFi this holiday season. In over 50 busy airports around the United States, Skype is offering free one-hour public WiFi from December 21st until the 27th.  At no cost, users are able to make a video or voice calls to their loved ones via their laptops, iOS devices and Mac PCs.

Director of Product Marketing at Skype, Linda Summers provides more details about staying in touch with loved ones while on-the-go:

“The holidays are all about connecting with those that you love. Skype is helping people maintain these meaningful connections this holiday season from wherever they may be. A voice or video call via Skype when you can’t be together for the holidays is the next best thing to being there.”

eBay is also extending free WiFi use to Delta Airline passengers from December 12th to January 2. The airline has over two thousand WiFi equipped flights.

Richelle Parham, Chief Marketing Officer of eBay North America, further detailed the agreement and how customers will be benefited.

“With over 200 million listings on eBay, Delta flyers are sure to find exactly the right gift as they head home this holiday season. Shoppers will also be able to access our Daily Deals while they fly, which offer deep discounts on hot products and free shipping.”

Social Media as Fundraising Hub

The social media connection makes a good foundation for fundraising any time of year, but especially relevant during the holiday season..  Large networks like Facebook and Twitter can drive more funds to a given organization in just a few clicks and seconds, and this is what many charitable institutions and campaigns are counting on this year.

One noteworthy initiative is the Chronic Disease Fund, reaching out to users with the Good Days Facebook Fundraising application. The money will fuel their engines to improve health and quality of life. In Pennsylvania, American Water has already caged in $1,100 worth of cash and gifts. Twitter, by means of Tweet Drive is accepting in more and more pledges and donations to give to the less fortunate.

There’s countless ways to give back to the community during the holiday, and many free services you can take advantage of in order to be nearer, even in the virtual sense, to your loved ones this season.  Be sure to show appreciation and be grateful of other acts of selflessness during this time of year.
