Zayo’s New, Green Fibre Solutions for the Datacenter

Fiber infrastructure solutions provider Zayo said it has completed a project to integrate a fiber build into Green House Data’s Wyoming facility. The company operates a SSAE 16, Type II data center that’s the first of its kind in the state, and offers hosting services and colocation services. As the name would imply, the owners have put an emphasis on being eco-friendly: it’s powered entirely by wind energy with 40 percent more efficiency than other facilities.

In addition to the fibre build, Zayo said it will provide IP Transit service to Green House in order to facilitate better connectivity for its 70 active customers.

“Now data center operators like Green House Data have a single-source option for metro and long haul connectivity, with deep coverage across the country,” says David Howson, President of Zayo Bandwidth. “Expansion of data center connectivity is an important initiative for Zayo to provide customers on-net access to the cloud-based content they need.”

The Zayo Group is rapidly expanding as a whole. Less than two weeks ago it raised a $315 million from several bankers in order to cover the acquisition of 360networks. The deal further enlarges the number of mileage the corporation’s wholesale bandwidth service covers: over 150 markets and growing.

While the wholesale bandwidth market is expanding with pushes from Zayo and others, so is the datacenter infrastructure space. Research firm Canalys said that investment in this area has reached $26.2 billion in the third quarter, with virtualization and the cloud among the biggest drivers pushing this trend. Such upgrades for the enterprise are part of an undertaking to manage growing quantities of data, and provide better service accounted for 39 percent of that spending.  Storage accounted for 25 percent, and Ethernet followed closely behind with 21 percent.
