Dropping Hints for CES: Connected Device Takeover

The 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show is just four days away.  And as it draws closer, more brands are hinting on what they have in store for the show.  Before 2011 ended, clues surfaced that this year’s CES would be dominated by connected TVs or 3D TVs that do not need 3D glasses, and also LED screens for mobile devices.  And as the new year started, more reports emerged indicating that these products wold really dominate the show.

LG

LG will be unveiling the largest OLED TV measuring at 55.”  Aside from being the largest OLED TV, this TV would also be powered by Google TV.  The television is the combination of Google’s Android OS and LG’s Smart TV technologies, and features an ARM-chipset.  It also comes with the Magic Remote Qwerty designed by LG, their  CINEMA 3D technology that uses battery-free 3D glasses.

“LG has constantly strived to provide consumers with wider choices in home entertainment that bring the highest level of sophistication and convenience,” said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “Through Google TV, LG has merged Google’s established Android operating system with LG’s proven 3D and Smart TV technologies, offering consumers a new and enthralling TV experience.”

LG would continue to push their own Smart TV platform based on NetCast using open web technology such as Webkit browser and Linux.  LG Smart TVs with NetCast will be available globally in 85 plus countries at launch.

Toshiba

According to their site, Toshiba would be showcasing the following innovations at the 2012 CES:

1. Smart Home – Become a gateway in the home, “Life Design Box” reference exhibit, and proposes a smart home by HEMS to work in digital consumer electronics and photovoltaics EV smart meters.

2. Tablet, PC – The world’s thinnest and lightest Tablet 10.1-inch wide, will exhibit a new line-up for the U.S. market, including the ultra-PC-2012 books in the world’s thinnest and lightest 13.3-inch wide. In addition, the organic EL panel with high brightness thin tablet and display such reference can be powered wireless tablet waterproof.

3. LCD TV – The new features can search across content from broadcast to video on demand, Apps for Tablet Note also support new products, including cooperation with the exhibitors a new lineup of LCD televisions for the U.S. in 2012. Furthermore, with four times the pixel panel QFHD announced the Japanese market in Europe and the glass-less 3D TV prototype of 55V type without glasses 3D images can be viewed only high-quality 2D images and proprietary image processing technology.
