Ultrabook Trends at CES: More MacBook Wannabes?

In this year’s anticipated Consumers Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, it is rather obvious that a bunch of companies are targeting Apple’s products with versions of their own. Well, these folks have a reason to aim at Apple–the upcoming release of the next-gen iPad and iPhone have been buzzing within the community for a long time now, with mounting anticipation from fanatics. CES 2012 is currently paving the way for the rise of Ultrabooks, which are predicted to be the next MacBook eradicator.

An Ultrabook is a lot like MacBook except that it carries the Intel trademark. Intel describes their innovation as the following:

“Ultrabook systems marry thin and light with the best in performance, responsiveness, security, and battery life–filling the gap between desktop/laptop and tablet. We are reinventing the PC again. An ultrabook device is ultra-responsive and ultra-sleek.”

Acer Aspire S5 Ultrabook

First to take a shot at luck is Acer, with the launch of the Aspire S5 Ultrabook, reportedly the thinnest Ultrabook in the World. It measures 15mm at the maximal point and weighs around 1.35 kgs. A lightweight, it is!

In an official statement following the launch, Acer President Jim Wong said, “The ultrabook is much more than just a product segment. It’s a new trend that will become the mainstream for mobile PCs, and customers will see the unique features gradually extended across Acer’s notebook family.”

The Aspire S5 Ultrabook also carries features like Acer Green Instant On technology that catalyzes system booting, and Acer Always Connect which allows users to manage and sync their multimedia on all devices anytime.

Lenovo Ultrabooks

The 14-incher sleek Lenovo Ultrabooks are also stealing the show. The IdeaPad lineup has obviously been inspired by Apple’s Macbook. The IdeaPad U310 and U410 were unveiled during this Las Vegas event and have gained positive reviews, so far.

Samsung Ultrabooks

The South Korean tech mogul is also very much interested in joining the parade of Ultrabooks. Earlier last week, Samsung released the Series 5 Ultra laptops, but was shortly taken out in their website for some unknown reasons. This is another 14-incher lightweight that has a built-in DVD burner.
