Teradici and TI Demo VDI Solution in the Social Enterprise Era

Desktop virtualization solutions maker Teradici and chipmaker Texas Instruments will be showcasing their technology in a joint booth this week at CES 2012 in Las Vegas.

In the TI Wireless booth, North Hall, MR N116, the two companies will demonstrate how the Teradici PCoIP protocol runs VMware View on the OMAP4460 mobile chip by Texas Instruments. The demo is serving several purposes, highlighting the value proposition behind both of the solutions the companies are presenting.

“By collaborating with TI on the OMAP 4 platform, we are expanding our portfolio of optimized solutions to provide mobile and enterprise customers with multimedia-rich virtual desktop performance,” said Dan Cordingley, president and chief executive officer. “Teradici’s continuing innovations in hardware, software and protocol deliver even greater flexibility for workers to access their VDI environments remotely and use new client form factors such as tablets and phone devices.”

The last time we heard from Teradici was back in early December, when they updated a couple of their products: PCoIP Firmware Release 3.5.0 and PCoIP Management Console 1.7. The firmware received most of the buzz thanks to the fact it introduced several key improvements, such as more scale and enhanced security. VDI is yet another industry when security has become a big deal, which is not surprising considering the need to store data outside the enterprise is one of the key barriers stopping companies from adopting the cloud. At the same time it’s also a huge attraction, both in the consumer space and among business users.

VMware also had an update recently. In late December EMC’s virtualization unit released three new View clients for Mac, Linux and even one dedicated to the Kindle Fire. When added up with the sales figures, Amazon and its tablet undoubtedly had a very happy holiday season.
