PubNub – A Cloud Service for Node.js
The real-time mega trend is taking new dimensions with the advent of billions of devices, game clients, digital televisions and really, a kaleidoscope of connected things.
A service may drop if the load becomes too enormous. It’s why we see the advent of gateway services that connect applications to apps and end devices.
PubNub is a cloud service that allows developers to add a messaging layer without putting the load on their own Node.js environment. Instead, developers that use Node.js may deploy PubNub to scale up to billions of messages per day.
The name gives a sense of PubNub’s offering. It is in many respects a publish and subscribe service. For example, game developers use it for creating messaging environments in multi-player games.
I did a quick interview at NodeSummit todat with PubNub CEO Todd Greene, who described the service and how PubNub works for developers:
POV
This is a classic kind of service that we saw emerge a few years ago. It’s a gateway of sorts that gives developers an infrastructure to scale apps by providing a deep social integration such as messaging – a very powerful type of service.
