Infineta’s Core Technology Patented after 3 Years

WAN optimization provider Infineta got a patent for the key software that powers its flagship Data Mobility Switch (DMS) solution, after applying back in 2009. U.S. Patent No. 8,078,593 covers the company’s big data-focused deduplication technology – a “massively parallel dedupe algorithm” that offers better I/O bandwidth utilization coupled with more simplicity.

“Infineta’s approach tackles two major problems in traditional de-duplication – the processing overhead of efficient de-duplication, and dictionary misses that result from minor data modifications (changing even a single byte within a segment will generally yield an entirely different hash index),” said David Floyer, CTO & Co-founder, Wikibon.

“Infineta’s technology has the potential to contribute significantly to de-duplication solutions.”

DMS and other offerings in Infineta’s portfolio are designed to handle petabyte-scale WAN based replication, which is why traffic footprint reduction and low latency are a part of the package. This makes Infineta’s pitch considerably more attractive to enterprises running large scale analytics jobs, as well as customers in other areas that want to tap the company’s high performance dedupe.

Infineta has a few other patents pending that would further expand its portfolio.

The company has gradually built up new offerings around its IP over the years, with one of the most recent additions being an on-demand version of the Data Mobility Switch. The Data Migration Accelerator is a pay-as-you-go service that adds an entirely new layer of cost efficiency, thanks to a new model that allows customers to only optimize what they want.

Prior to the product announcement, Ashok Krishnamurth joined Infienta’s board of directors, where he is contributing his experience in leading and management as well as product development.
