LulzSec’s Sabu an FBI Informant as Arrests are Reported

Fox news has reported that the famed international computer hacking group Lulzsec has been significantly impacted by a number of arrests and that it’s top member has been working for the FBI. Hector Xavier Monsegur, an unemployed 28 year-old father of two has been identified as “Sabu”, a leader of LulzSec. Evidence he has provided is reported to have resulted in the arrests. The known arrests of three parties and two others on conspiracy charges is hitting the news today.

“This is devastating to the organization,” said an FBI official involved with the investigation. “We’re chopping off the head of LulzSec.”

According to the article, Sabu’s guilty plea admissions will be unsealed in court today. In the indictment the various members are named along with charges:

The five charged in the LulzSec conspiracy indictment expected to be unsealed were identified by sources as: Ryan Ackroyd, aka “Kayla” and Jake Davis, aka “Topiary,” both of London; Darren Martyn, aka “pwnsauce” and Donncha O’Cearrbhail, aka “palladium,” both of Ireland; and Jeremy Hammond aka “Anarchaos,” of Chicago.

Hammond is also a central figure behind the Stratfor compromise that are now being released on Wikileaks and associated with Anonymous.

As described in articles published here when LulzSec was first making news, the apprehension of these and other characters would best be committed by classic investigation means.  The announcements and arrests that are emerging seem to reinforce that.   The technical and random nature of the group made the identification of potential targets nearly impossible.
