The jQuery Replacement Has Arrived: AppMobi’s New HTML5 Framework

AppMobi released version 1.0 of jqMobi, an HTML5-based alternative to the jQuery JavaScript framework that was specifically developed for mobile. We covered the original launch in January, and the mobile development solutions maker made a big point of comparing the two platforms, demonstrating some figures that show why jqMobi is the best option for mobile app makers. Performance was one of the areas where the latter managed to beat jQuery in tests commissioned by the company, and it also takes up less memory.

Today the first official version is rolling out, introducing a host of improvements to the existing code. For one, jqMobi’s 30 API functions and basic event support have been expanded to 60 API call, along with more support and query selector compatibility.

jqUI, the touch-based UI library that comes with the framework, has also received an upgrade. It now works much better on tablets and includes six colors, along with vector-based iconography.  AppMobi’s outlined how the community has welcomed its offering so far:

“jqMobi could not have been released at a better time,” said developer Michael Bryne, of Fueled Media. “As my first foray into mobile application development, jqMobi allowed me to get my app up and running in record time, with a full feature set and rock-solid one-of-a-kind support from the development team. I cannot recommend jqMobi and jqUI enough!”

AppMobi has been doing a lot of R&D lately. It announced the directCanvas HTML5 Acceleration SDK for Android, the engine is promised to deliver screen refresh rates up to 10 times faster. The kit has also been tweaked for game developers, so that it can be used to boost functionality such as sound and physics calculation.
