EdgeCast Teams with Motorola to Spread its Content Delivery Platform

Content is king, and that goes for mobile, too. EdgeCast Networks looks to Motorola for extended content distribution, signing an agreement where Motorola will distribute EdgeCast’s portfolio of content delivery network (CDN) services to service providers worldwide. This partnership combines Motorola’s portfolio of on-demand, network DVR and IP CPE services.

Motorola will now distribute EdgeCast’s CDN platform that includes advanced network provisioning, monitoring and management services. Motorola is one of the global leaders in VoD, nDVR and in-home multi-screen IP video delivery capacities and the combination of EdgeCast’s global IP CDN service can provide the opportunities for service providers to generate extra revenue via an integrated VoD, nDVR, IP CDN and both home and public based IP multi-screen services.

“Motorola is driving the evolution of TV and the smart, simple connect home. Working with EdgeCast provides us the ability to offer our customers simple and fast access to a proven CDN environment that enables the delivery of IP video on-demand and nDVR cloud directly to the multi-device, multi-screen enabled consumer,” said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, Network Infrastructure Solutions, Motorola Mobility.

“EdgeCast’s CDN solution will immediately enable service providers the ability to efficiently delivery multi-screen IP content, and if desired, an option to generate additional revenue by offering their CDN services directly to content providers.”

EdgeCast CDN services are known to be complete end-to-end, scalable and flexible system solutions. The services support most of the media devices running on HTTP protocol and provide comprehensive security, monitoring and reporting features for simplified customer service and troubleshooting.

“We are very pleased to be working with Motorola. Our content delivery solution gives powerful support to Motorola’s strategy of offering a comprehensive IP video based service delivery platform that starts in the cloud and results in enhanced IP multiscreen services delivery into the consumer’s home,” said James Segil, president and co-founder, EdgeCast Networks. “By teaming with Motorola, we can offer a proven, completely integrated end-to-end solution for video delivery and enable service providers to directly offer CDN services.”

The Mobile Content Delivery Ecosystem

Smart phones are becoming the new platform for digital media consumption, and the need for companies to adopt mobile strategies is increasingly evident. Due to the increasing demand for quality content-enabled devices in mobility, the distribution platform for mobile content delivery ecosystem is rapidly gaining the industry.

DTS Inc., the global leader in HD audio system, today announced a partnership with NXP Software to integrate DTS audio technology in NXP’s QuickPlayer and CineXPlayer smart media player solutions. NXP provides mobile multimedia software to all major mobile platforms.

The partnership enables service providers and network operators to deploy and broadcast high quality HD video with high quality audio service to a wide range of Android and iOS smart phones and tablets.

Saba, the provider of enterprise wide educational solutions, introduced the Saba Learning Management Suite this week. The suite offers learning management, social learning, virtual classroom as well as content authoring and management, testing and assessment, and mobile learning, all in a single platform.

Saba has introduced a unified enterprise learning platform across the range mobile devices, supporting over 32 locales, multilingual support and helpdesk capabilities.

Another development surrounding mobile content delivery is from the media company Telstra. They launched a IP-based mobile content delivery system for mobile devices this week, designed to enable the transition of fixed format video service to shift towards IP based content delivery, which has huge viewing demands on iPads, iPhones and other devices.
