Not Much Difference in Strata and Structure Conferences: It’s All about Data, Again

Hadoop can easily be named one of the fastest growing open source technologies in IT. The big data ecosystem is also growing like crazy, and the industry has been paying attention.

The Strata conference was held earlier this month, an event dedicated to unstructured analytics. SiliconANGLE and Wikibon both attended the annual gathering, and in a follow-up post Jeff Kelly described how this year’s Strata evolved from last year’s.  One of the first things he pointed out was the fact some pretty big sponsors signed up, which comes to show exactly how far the big data ecosystem has expanded in just 12 months.

Strata was about three weeks ago, and this it’s all about GigaOM’s Structure conference. They’re bringing in a handful of top industry insiders and pundits to give their view on the changes occurring in the big data space; the same insight these pundits have shared with us in theCube many times before.

One of the speakers is Mike Olson, the founding CEO of Cloudera that will talk about future of Hadoop.  He will be covering the same area he explored at Strata,  where he highlighted just how important the ecosystem is for the data crunching engine. Hadoop is not a complete substitute to traditional alternatives, according to Olson, which is why core apps such as HBase will play a big role further down the road.

Continuity CEO Todd Papaioannou is scheduled to speak right after Olson’s keynote, and his session is entitled “Realize Real-Time Value on the Real-Time Web.” From his angle this ties in directly with Node.js, an emerging JavaScript-based language that he sees a lot of potential in for certain applications.

Structure will also be featuring Scott Yara, one of the key people behind the now EMC-owned Greenplum. Yara gives us a look into the large-scale enterprise side of things.  See the whole video below.
