Vibanko.com Closure Imminent: Move Those Bitcoins Before May 1st

It looks like the Bitcoin e-wallet service Vibanko.com by Bitcoin Consultancy—who also run the Bitcoin exchange Intersango —will be shutting down by May 1st 2012. An e-mail from Vibanko CTO Patrick Strateman has been sent out to warn about the imminent closure.

A short warning appears on the Vibanko.com website as an announcement:

Vibanko is no longer being maintained. Please move any remaining funds to Intersango by April 30th.

Originally started as a response to what happened to Mybitcoin.com when the site went AWOL with over $250,000 worth of Bitcoins, Vibanko was implemented in order to fill the niche of a trustworthy e-wallet service that used Bitcoins. However, now it looks like it’s time for it to give way to a new project.

According to the Bitcoin Consultancy projects page, Vibanko has been shut down because it has been “[s]uperseded by Intersango which can be used as a virtual wallet service.”

If you still have Bitcoins held in a Vibanko account it’s time for you to get in and move them out before May 1st.

About Kyt Dotson

Technology and civilization walk hand in hand and civilization is nothing without the skin of society, brushing up against itself, speaking strange nothings across dimly lit avenues and computer screens. If we're going to understand ourselves in this digital era, it will be through watching the adoption of technology by people to express themselves as people. I am an anthropologist and an author of science fiction and fantasy--and with my technology, I hope to open up new and exciting worlds that will not just enlighten the humanity of my friends and fans but also educate and enhance the expression of their own personhood.
