As usual this week had a bounty of updates from the cloud, and a big portion of those were news from development and engineering tools makers.

ActiveState rolled out version 1.2 of Stackato, its fast-growing PaaS that follows the mantra of supporting as many languages as possible. In addition to the enhanced filesystem functions, admin features and other updates, the latest release is also integrated with the Komodo IDE, meaning that developers can debug their code directly from within Stackato.

Next up is Panaroma9, a startup that offers a cloud service of its own to IT, which is now available to clients in the U.S. The company offers a platform that consolidates a number of admin tasks, with the goal of making it easier for staff to handle all the responsibility that comes with trying to keep IT infrastructure up and running.

There were a couple of other items this week that fall under the same category: ManageEngine launched a networking app just for IT, and Jaspersoft announced that it’s integrating some of its big data reporting tools with VMware’s Cloud Foundry.

At the same time the virtualization firm kept busy with something else – the development of View 5.1, which launched earlier this week. The addition of extensive support for mobile devices can probably be deemed the biggest enhancement, although it’s only one of a few. That list covers some of VMware’s other applications as well, including its recently unveiled Google Drive storage alternative.

Last but not least in this recap is IBM,  which released a development kit and testing environment for its PureSystem appliances. To be more specific, they’re meant for the development of the software patterns that power the new hardware and automate operations.
