Tablet Business Apps Roundup: Lookout Tops the List

This week Lookout for Android snatched the top spot in our list of iPad and Android tablet apps for professionals, one of the leading mobile security tools out there. The sheer amount of traction this particular app has received supported it through 7 different releases, and version 7.10 doesn’t disappoint either.

Android

Lookout Security & Antivirus

Lookout earned its rather inclusive title by including a double set of features – one focused on protecting a user’s device from software-based threats that can be picked off the web, and another ensuring theft protection.  The app aims to cover everything from malware to pinpointing a stolen phone’s location.

ABBYY Business Card Reader

ABBY offers a quick and simple way of adding a contact to one’s list – just take a picture of a business card and the app will read the relevant information off it, saving some unnecessary typing.  Now your contacts are searchable, comprehensive and you don’t have to worry about losing someone’s info or pulling up a separate app to find that photo again.

iPad

VNC Viewer

VNC is a remote desktop access client that managed to deliver exactly what it promises – the ability to connect to a machine via the iPad, over one of several networking options. The user can change settings, access apps and otherwise do pretty much everything they would be able to from directly behind their home monitor.

Timer Master + Billing

Time Master is a handy little tool that ranks high in the schedule management category. A professional on the go can put it to good use by recording session durations, categorize entries based on clients and individual projects, or one of several other things that aim to optimize the way they bill and keep track of their time.

Wolfram Alpha

The Wolfram Alpha client for iPad makes use of the tablet’s wide screen to provide the user with all the small yet nonetheless handy tidbits of data the massive site has to offer. That can range from the current weather in a certain city to various statistics and the names of the local wildlife species.
