Major Design Changes for Rumored iPhone 5

WWDC is all set for next week and though the event is known for Apple software announcements, some are just fixated on the fact that there’s a possibility for a hardware launch.  Some believe that Apple is launching updates to their Mac lines, while others believe that an Apple TV will be launched.  But those possibilities are taking a back seat as hopefuls are longing to see the iPhone 5 at next week’s event.

A new video surfaced on YouTube which features the back panel of the rumored iPhone 5.  When placed side by side with the iPhone 4/4S, the back cover is visibly longer but the width is the same.  So this means the next iPhone could have a 4” screen.

But aside from the obvious size change, the back cover features some alterations as well.   It features a smaller dock connector, redesigned speaker grills and a second aperture next to the rear camera lens, which 9to5Mac guessed as a possibility for a secondary microphone for video capture.  Another notable difference is that the iPhone 5 back cover is connected to the middle frame, creating a whole back cover unlike the previous iPhones with separate front, middle and back parts.  Also, the earphone slot was moved to the bottom part of the device, adjacent to the speakers and dock connector, and it features a smaller SIM card slot.  And though the video only featured the back cover, it appears that the iPhone is thinner compared to the iPhone 4/4S

In summary, these are the design changes found on the alleged iPhone 5: bigger screen size, smaller dock connector, redesigned speaker grills, camera aperture, earphone doc, SIM slot size, thinner, and the uni-back cover.

Only time will tell if these rumors come to fruition, and we’ll have to wait until next week to find out what Apple will unveil at WWDC.
