Top 10 Best (and Worst) Cities for IT Job Seekers

Simply Hired is a job site that claims to serve 30 million monthly users living in 24 different countries, and its latest employment statics report for the month of June reveals some interesting facts about the IT job market in the U.S.  The paper provides the names of the top 10 places for job seekers in the industry, and the ten worst places as well, all based on data from Simply Hired postings.

According to the report Baltimore, Detroit, Charlotte, and Portland are the cities with the most openings, followed by Seattle, Pittsburgh and Milwaukee with Silicon Valley following suit at the eighth spot. Newark, Birmingham and Riverside, CA in turn are the three cities most engineers would probably want to avoid, followed by seven others including Sacramento and Indianapolis.

Simply Hired’s info could come in handy for not just individual developers seeking employment, but also CIOs on the other scale if the recruitment process.  If you’re looking to hire someone in Baltimore or Detroit you’ll probably have to up the salary in order to catch the attention of the good talent, and looking at the big picture, it can pay off to consider other options as well.
