Classifieds Don’t Come with Credit Checks but They Can Check Your PayPal

Vendalism, the free online classifieds and auctions site, announced the integration of PayPal verification features for buyers and sellers to link their verified PayPal account to eliminate scammers from the free sellers website.

The new features make it easy for visitors to verify if the buyers or sellers are legitimate with just one click of a mouse.

“One of the disadvantages of a free classifieds or marketplace site, versus paid sites like eBay, is that there’s no barrier to entry for scammers,” states Mateus Boyington, co-founder of Vendalism.com. “Users don’t have to put up money to sell, creating an environment where it’s easy to be defrauded.”

Online buyers that wish to see the listing of a seller with a verified PayPal account will also see a PayPal badge signifying that the sellers is likely to be authentic.

“Our latest feature provides legitimate sellers and buyers the option to link their Vendalism account to their verified PayPal account, making it difficult for scammers to create a trustworthy account,” says Boyington. “With this powerful feature, we really change the landscape of free online classifieds.”

In addition to the badge, sellers are also provided with options to only accept purchases, offers, and bids from buyers who have linked to a verified PayPal account. This feature eliminates the opportunity for scammers, and helps to filter out non-serious buyers.

“A lot of selling sites create painful and ineffective processes to cut down on scammers, like Craigslist’s phone authentication – or they give up on being a free site.” says Boyington. “We put our users first, and want to make the process of conducting legitimate business as easy as possible – while remaining a free site.”

The online classified site supports cross-posting to Craigslist, allowing sellers to manage both Vendalism and Craigslist with a single click.

The Online Seller Goes Mobile

As the web provides a broad, free market for buyers and sellers at the local and national level, online classifieds are also picking up on mobile trends with other ways to verify and leverage a user’s connections.

Quick, the slick shopping application for buying and selling across multiple online platforms, recently announced a new mobile app for buyers and sellers to do transactions via multiple social and enterprise platforms such as eBay, Craigslist, Facebook, and Quick’s own Mobile Marketplace.

The mobile app features automated product descriptions based on barcode scans and web info, the ability to search for items based on geo-location, and an aggregated platform, all managed from your mobile device.

Another leader of online selling, eBay is adding fast and free shipping service right to your door with a new same-day shipping service called eBay Now. The new service, currently offered for iPhone and iPad users, is available from eBay’s Milo platform to San Francisco residents.  To sign up for eBay Now you just to have to make a purchase of $25 or more from local stores, and it will delivered to you within an hour.
