Pose for the Picture: Veeam Introduces Explorer SAN Snapshots

Are you part of the lucky group of hard working people that have the leisure to work from home? You get to sit at your computer and work with Dr. Phil on the TV and a few snacks sprawled around your desk. Your boss won’t be able to see the Twinkies or the empty coke bottles, but he will be able to see exactly what you’re working on throughout the day with Veeam’s new Explorer for SAN Snapshots.

This new software allows IT admins to restore a virtual machine (VM) directly from SAN snapshots, that be taken throughout the day. This software will help with short recovery point objectives (RPOs), such as: users deleting data by mistake, data scripts corrupting data and system updates gone wrong. And the fact that it’s an automated process ensures there will be no human errors, nor will the SAN snapshots be altered in any way.

The software was developed hand-in-hand with HP and allows admins to recover VM’s and data directly from HP LeftHand and HP StoreVirtual VSA snapshots. What this software will do is leverage SAN snapshots so that the level-image backups and snapshots compliment each other. And instead of converting SAN snapshots to back them up, Veeam uses them in their original form.

The new software was created to give consumers an affordable, easy-to-use flexible recovery from SAN snapshots. A whole VM is able to be recovered in around two minutes  and includes wizards to simplify and safeguard restores. And admins are able to restore exactly what they need with full VM, individual guest files and individual Microsoft Exchange items.

“To maintain competitive advantage, organizations require quick and reliable data backup and recovery processes. The combination of Veeam Backup & Replication software with HP LeftHand and HP StoreVirtual VSA solutions enables our clients to restore their virtual environments more quickly to minimize business disruption,” said Steve Crimi, Director of Business Development and Alliances, HP.

But the coolest thing about this software is that it’s free.
