Choosing the Right Mobile Development Path – What to Look For?

Mobile apps are gradually taking over the mobile browsing world. Smartphone owners, across the globe, use a variety of apps on their devices that not only enhance their mobile experience, but act us utilities for day-to-day activities.

Mobile apps have become so dominant across the mobile world that enterprises have got really serious about the way they deliver their business apps. They need apps that can sell their products, grab user attention, generate leads, and execute their business vision. And this has brought an immense pressure on the entire mobile developer community.

There are lots of development tools out there that are useful for the developer community. But the tricky part is that how to choose the best mobile app development tool, something that can facilitate quick and feature-rich delivery. So, if we start finding the way, the very first point that comes our way is the path, which is generally of three types – native, web, and hybrid. And which path to choose entirely depends upon the type of app required. For example, a native app delivers the best device fidelity and user experience, but require significant time and skill to produce, while the web apps are quick to deploy but have significant limitations. The latest approach is the hybrid app development that combines prebuilt native containers with web coding, but requires you to buy into one vendor’s vision of the app creation process.

Depending upon your requirement, you can choose your development path and purchase a mobile SDK. For native app development, there are tools like Apple’s Xcode IDE, Android’s native Android Development Tools (ADT) Java programming plug-in, and Microsoft’s Windows Phone SDK. Web-based apps rely on JavaScript for client-side programmability, and examples of open JavaScript frameworks include Ext JS, (now Sencha) JQuery Mobile, and The-M-Project. Well, if you are looking for some great tools for hybrid development path, Appcelerator’s Titanium is one of the earliest and popular tools, along with Sencha Touch 2 JavaScript framework and Sencha Architect, a drag-and-drop GUI builder. For cloud-based mobile app development with no coding required, you might consider MobileFrame, which provides pre-built app templates you customize via a Web-based GUI designer, then deploy as either native or hybrid apps.

So, there are so many tools available out there. All you need to do is understand your customer’s requirements, decide about the type of mobile app you require, and then choose the right development path for you. In the same vein, we saw some more recent tools coming up for the developer community that are aimed at taking away their burden. Just last month, Application Craft launched its new cloud-based app platform to address the need for more simple yet powerful mobile application development tools for beginners as well as experienced professionals. With this release, Application Craft has widen the doors of app development for developers of all skill levels, by allowing them to build and deploy web, native and hybrid mobile, tablet, and desktop apps in a faster and cost effective manner.

Lately, Telerik also announced its Windows 8 UI Controls Release Candidate that will help the entire developer community to build apps for the Windows store in a better way. The Windows 8 UI Controls Release Candidate by Telerik allows developers build apps in a better and secure way. These apps will be useful for both enterprise and consumer market. Besides, to make developers productive, the suite offers the industry’s best support and rich capabilities on top of WinRT, engineered specifically for enterprise development.
