Storage Startup Nirvanix Upgrades to Brocade

Cloud storage startup Nirvanix implemented routers and switches from Brocade in its networking environment to  better accommodate the requirements of its enterprise customers, according to a release that just went out.

Fox and National Geographic are among the clients that leverage Nirvanix’s hosted platform, along with several Fortune 500 companies. The firm is expected to deliver “extreme security, reliability and redundancy” with its CloudCompete portfolio, and it chose Brocade to provide the underlying technology needed to meet these needs.

Nirvanix uses integrated Brocade ICX 6610 Ethernet switches, NetIronCER 2000 Series routers and Brocade ADX Series app delivery switches to power its networking backbone, along with Brocade 300 Fibre Channel storage area network (SAN) switches that improve scalability.

“As demand for our cloud storage services continues to increase, we require a highly scalable data networking infrastructure across all of our cloud deployments,” said Randy Hollis, Vice President of Engineering, Nirvanix. “Brocade’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet [GbE] switching portfolio and 8 Gbps Fibre Channel switches have demonstrated extreme levels of resilience and scalability for us to deliver continuous data accessibility and elasticity across multiple geographical locations worldwide.”

Brocade is at the forefront of innovation in the networking space, according to Jason Nolet, vice president of the company’s data center and enterprise networking group. Speaking in theCube at the Brocade Tech day last month, Nolet boasted that his firm invented the concept of Ethernet fabric and is now a leading provider in this segment. Brocade’s solutions are virtualization-aware and list several other qualities as well, including reduced latency and other advantages that clients like Nirvanix demand.
