John McAfee In Hiding, Pleads Innocent To Murder Accusation

From tech entrepreneur to a guy accused for murder, anti-virus pioneer John McAfee is now in hiding.

News broke out over the weekend that Gregory Faull, an expatriate in Belize and a neighbor of McAfee had been murdered and the prime suspect is the anti-virus pioneer.  Preliminary reports stated that McAfee and Faull had a disagreement regarding his pet dogs, as the latter filed a formal complaint in the mayor’s office regarding the rowdy behavior of the dogs.  Faull was found face up in a pool of blood with a single shot to the back of the head from a 9mm Luger.

In an interview with The Wired, McAfee stated that the Belize government is out to get him, and he is innocent.

According to McAfee, he believes that whoever killed Faull was actually targeting him and Faull was mistaken for McAfee.  McAfee relayed how he hid covered in sand and a cardboard box over his head when the authorities raided his house on Sunday afternoon.  He did not want to be caught, as he believed that the authorities would kill him.

McAfee’s behavior has been described as erratic as of late, which could be due to his love of drugs.  His neighbors complained that his dogs were aggressive and that if anyone walked on the shore, they would start barking at them.  It also didn’t help that he hired armed men to patrol his property.  This scared the neighbors.

McAfee already had a previous run-in with the authorities in Belize when he was accused of manufacturing methamphetamine and possessing unlicensed weapons.  The Gang Suppression Unit of Belize raided his property then, and McAfee claimed that two of his 9mm Luger ammunition were taken during the raid.  Those charges were dropped, but McAfee still believes that the government has a vendetta against him.

Last Friday, McAfee claimed that the authorities killed his dogs in an attempt to get him to leave the county.

“The coast guard dropped off a contingent of black-suited thugs at 10:30 tonight at the dock next door,” McAfee wrote in an e-mail Friday night to Joshua Davis of Wired. “They dispersed on the beach. A half hour later all of my dogs had been poisoned. Mellow, Lucky, Dipsy, and Guerrero have already died.”

When asked if it was possible that one of his neighbors poisoned his dogs, McAfee stated that none of them would resort to killing as they were dog lovers, even Faull.

“This is not something he would ever do,” McAfee said. “I mean, he’s an angry sort of guy but he would never hurt a dog.”

As for the authorities, Marco Vidal, the head of Belize’s Gang Suppression Unit, is amazed by McAfee’s accusations.  He stated that they are after McAfee because he is the prime suspect and stated that the GSU was not responsible for poisoning his dogs, as there was no need to resort to that.

McAfee is currently on the run and has no intentions of surrendering to the authorities.  And even though McAfee feels like they’re out to get and kill him, he stated that he had no intentions of leaving Belize.

“Under no circumstances am I going to willingly talk to the police in this country,” McAfee stated.  “You can say I’m paranoid about it but they will kill me, there is no question. They’ve been trying to get me for months. They want to silence me. I am not well liked by the prime minister. I am just a thorn in everybody’s side.”
