Another Ego Boost for QLogic: Channel Strategy is Working
QLogic received quote the ego boost from Demartek, an independent research firm that found its 8Gb and 16Gb Fibre Channel offerings outperform that of competitors by a great margin. The results of the recent TPC-H benchmark study were published in the company’s December 2012 Fibre Channel HBA Evaluation report.
The report found that QLogic FlexSuite 2600 Series dual-port 16Gb Fibre Channel adapter processed queries up to 133 percent faster than its nearest competitor, and 16 percent on average. The 8Gbe 2500 series solution runs 17 times faster than rivaling offerings, with peak speeds that provide a 120 percent edge.
Demartek took the opportunity to note some of the other things it likes about QLogic’s adapters besides performance.
“With its unique port-level isolation architecture, the dual-port QLogic 2600 Series 16Gb Fibre Channel adapter provides independent port functionality for increased security and reliability, improved fault-tolerance, and predictable performance scalability. By comparison, the architecture of the nearest competitive offering does not provide port-level isolation, resulting in compromised physical security and scalability.
The FlexSuite 2600 adapter can pump out 1.2 million IOP per second, three times as the 8Gb configuration. It offers 82 percent more performance and can handle data 35 percent faster, according to the same study.
QLogic is looking to grow any edge it may have over its competitors, and its taking several different routes towards realizing its goals. One of them is the channel: the networking solutions vendor recently announced that two of its products have been certified to run alongside Alcatel-Lucen technology. QLogic’s 8200 and 3200 Series10Gb converged network adapters were made compatible with OmniSwitch, a particular brand of LAN switches based on Alcatel-Lucent’s Application Fluent Network architecture.
