HP Facelifts Storage Solutions for Market Transitions

Global technology heavyweight Hewlett-Packard has announced industry-first innovations for its converged storage portfolio that break through the mounting difficulties and inefficiencies of enterprise infrastructure with a single architecture for companies of all sizes.

At the company’s event, HP Discover 2012 in Frankfurt, Germany, Sean Kinney, Director, HP Storage in a conversation with SiliconAngle’s founder John Furrier and Wikibon’s Dave Vellante said HP storage solutions is the essential foundation of solutions to drive agility, speed innovation and lower costs (full video below).

Kinney said legacy storage vendors are simply not equipped to help organizations respond to new workloads, and bolting on new features to old architectures has created a nightmare. HP Converged Solutions, on the other hand, is designed for virtualized, cloud and big data retention environments, combined with HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage, HP StoreAll Storage and HP StoreOnce Backup.

He added HP’s unique set of converged storage innovations help clients simplify infrastructure and reduce costs with a common architecture across storage segments and categories.

In a response to HP’s position against competitors including Dell, Kinney said, unlike other vendors, HP Converged Storage system enables a single-system architecture to exist in several forms, shapes and sizes from low to high, but retains common data services for block, object and file applications.

Other storage backup provider including EMC, Datamatics and others are also speeding up the development of their services with some key acquisitions. To compete against rivals, Kenney said HP StoreOnce Catalyst software provides efficient data movement and reduction of data protection costs in remote sites and data centers. The platform offers backup and storage availability and supports both block and file data services. He added that with one single platform with various services like HP Storage Management Services, HP 3PAR StoreServ, HP StoreAll Storage and HP, StoreOnce helps clients optimize their investment and create the right business environment.

Looking closely at HP’s Big Data position, Kinney said HP uses StoreAll Storage scalable platform for unstructured data with converged object and file storage services for up to 16 petabytes (PB) of data. The platform includes HP StoreAll Express Query, that can be used standalone or in conjunction with big data archive and analytic applications. The platform processes new data changes and deliver up to date analytics based on real-time information.
