VMware Releases Horizon Workspace App

VMware has released an app to provide secure, anywhere access to files and applications from iPhones and iPad Touch PDAs. The free Horizon Workspace App is part of the VMware Horizon Suite that combines areas of applications, data, and virtual desktop access into a single, integrated, end-user computing object. This provides access to Windows, Android, iOS, web, and SaaS applications, along with their files on the user’s virtual desktop on the user’s work or personal device. More

 

jcpenney Chooses Microsoft 365

jcpenney is rolling out Microsoft Office 365 as its communication and enterprise social platform as part of its effort to simplify and modernize its core technology. It hopes to improve customer service and increase information-sharing across the company though the Cloud. Office 365 will allow remote employees to stay connected virtually anywhere, anytime, from smartphones, PCs and tablets. More

 

Microsoft to Demonstrate Technologies at National Retail Federation Conference

Microsoft Corp will demonstrate what it terms “the future of retailing today” by combining its and partner technologies, in booth 1005 at the National Retail Federation (NRF) 102nd Annual Convention and Expo at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City January 14-15. Visitors to the booth will be able to experience how they can reinvent their customer experience through connected shopping scenarios in store and online, engage their employees, and optimize operations. Microsoft executives will also lead education sessions in NRF’s Big !deas Boulevard. More

 

Duke Wins Deloitte National MBA Case Competition

A team from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business won Deloitte’s third annual National MBA Case Competition at Deloitte University’s campus near Dallas. The 15 finalist student teams analyzed a complex business issue for a company in the retail grocery and boutique coffee industry. The winning team of Sami Alami, Elise Eggart, Mike Slattery, and Brendan Ward received $20,000 in scholarship awards. More

 

Deloitte Recognized as “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality” for Seventh Consecutive Year

Deloitte has been named one of Human Rights Campaign’s (RRC) “Best Places to Work”, earning a 100 percent rating in HRC’s 2013 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) for the seventh consecutive year. The CEI measures inclusion initiatives, company benefits, and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) personnel and the wider LGBT community. Since 2002 the number of employers officially rated by the CEI has more than doubled. More

 

Deloitte Acquires Bersin & Associates

Deloitte has acquired substantially all the assets of Oakland, California-based Bersin & Associates LLC, a provider of research-based membership programs and advisory services in HR, talent, and learning. Deloitte will combine Bersin with its existing human capital and talent practice to expand its data, research and analysis, strategic insights, and technology support services for the talent marketplace. KPMG Survey Finds Global Automakers Eyeing Growth

Global auto makers plan to invest in new plants and expanding their logistical and distribution capabilities, including captive sales and financial services arms, over the next five years, according to a new KPMG LLP survey. The Global Automotive Executive Survey found 64 percent of global auto executives say their companies will increase investment in new plants over the next five years, up from 55 percent in the 2012 survey. US auto executives were more positive, with 70 percent predicting increased investment. More

HP Board Schedules Annual Meeting and Record Date

The HP Board of Directors has established a record date of January 22, meaning all stockholders of record at close of business on that date will be entitled to attend and vote at the company’s annual meeting. The board has scheduled the annual meeting for March 20 in Mountain View, California. More

IDC Lists HP and Worldwide PC Market Share Leader for 4Q12

International Data Corp. has announced that worldwide PC shipments for the fourth quarter of 2012 totaled 89.8 million units, down 6.4 percent from the same quarter in 2011 and worse than the expected 4.4 percent. This is the first time in more than five years that the PC market has seen a year-on-year decline during the holiday season. IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker shows that HP maintained its number 1 position in PC and workstation shipments worldwide and in the United States. More
