EMC Announces Online File Sharing for the Enterprise

EMC has announce beta availability of Syncplicity, its cloud-based online file sharing service with the option for customers to use either EMC Isilon scale-out NAS or EMC Atmos object-based storage. Syncplicity allows customers to store their files on-premise and in the Cloud. It gives IT great flexibility and control in where managed files reside while providing users with a secure, easy-to-use system for file sync and sharing across all their computers and devices. EMC Doubles Performance of Entry-level VMAX 10K

EMC has announced a major update to its VMAX Family, increasing power, intelligence, dependability, and efficiency for mission-critical applications in VMware virtualized environments for medium-to-large businesses. The entry-level EMC VMAX 10K is upgraded to 2X the power of its predecessor, making it a competitor for highest-performing system in its class. EMC has also added a list of new features to the VMAX systems through major updates to VMAX Enginuity software. More

 

EMC Boosts IT Efficiency, Reduces TCO 20% for Vaccine Manufacturer

Sanofi Pasteur, a worldwide vaccine manufacturer producing more than 1 billion doses of vaccine annually, has deployed EMC Documentum D2, allowing it to accelerate time-to-value. A content management application with a configurable, intuitive user experience, is a central component of the Documentum for Life Sciences system. Sanofi Pasteur has used it to transform business practices and modernize its content management system into a unified document control and compliance infrastructure for managing mission-critical regulated content. Walgreens Joins HP Public Print Locations Network

Business users and consumer can now print directly from iPhones and iPads to more than 8,000 U.S. Walgreens stores, bringing the HP Public Print Locations (PPL) Network to 30,000 sites worldwide. Users who download the free HP ePrint Services iPhone app can order prints of their photos, which can be picked up at a local Walgreens in as little as an hour. More

 

HP Brings Electronic Patient Records to Poland’s National Centre for Health Information Systems

HP Enterprise Services Poland has signed a $27 million agreement with the Polish Ministry of Health’s National Centre for Health Information Systems to assist in the development of a national e-health environment. HP will build and deploy a portal for collecting, analyzing, and sharing digital health records across Poland. Better access to health records for authorized users will improve patient service quality and facilitate better health-related decisions at the government level. More

 

HP to Supply Luxottica with Data Center Services

HP Enterprise Services Italia S.r.l. has signed a contract with fashion, luxury, and sports eyewear manufacturer Luxottica Group S.p.A. to manage its data center environment. HP will help Luxottica create a more agile, secure, and scalable technology infrastructure to support its migration to a cloud computing environment. A central part of the project is to standardize its IT environment to reduce risk and improve governance of IT operations. More

 

IBM, STMicroelectronics, Shaspa Announce Smarter Home Initiative

IBM, STMicroelectronics and Shaspa have partnered to tap cloud and mobile computing to provide innovative ways for consumers to manage the functions of their homes and entertainment systems. The collaboration is focusing on developing multiple user interfaces such as voice recognition and physical gestures on top of networking functions to create a gateway that connects a television, computer, or mobile device to smart meters, lights, appliances, plugs, and sensors inside the house and with outside Cloud services. More

 

IBM Tops U.S. Patent List for 20th Consecutive Year

IBM has received a record 6,478 patents in 2012 for inventions that will enable fundamental advancements across key domains including analytics, Big Data, cybersecurity, cloud, mobile, social networking, and software-defined environments. The new patents also include advancements in industry solutions for retail, banking, healthcare, and transportation. They also include advances in cognitive systems, which IBM describes as “a major shift in computing”. More

IBM has announced expansion of its technical support services to help SMBs provide global technology support to their customers. This can allow smaller business to expand into new geographies and play in the global marketplace. IBM provides comprehensive single-source technical support services for a fraction of the cost of maintaining in-house skills or multiple regional service contracts. More

 

Forrester Study Finds Quantifiable Benefits from Quest Toad for Oracle

Toad for Oracle database management solutions from Quest Software Inc., now part of Dell, can provide large companies with significant quantifiable cost savings and productivity enhancements as well as several soft benefits, according to a Total Economic Impact study by Forrester Consulting. The subject of the study was a large, U.S.-based global transportation company with more than 100,000 employees, that uses Toad for Oracle Professional Edition for developers, Toad for Oracle Xpert Edition for advanced developers, Xpert Edition database administrator module for DBAs, and Toad Data Point edition for data analysts. The study found total risk-adjusted benefits of $51,358,311, a positive 2677 percent ROI over the past five years, and a payback period of less than 12 months. More
