EMC VSPEX Cuts SharePoint Tuning Time by 80%

EMC has announced an enhanced VPEX Private Cloud solution that it says will reduce the time customers spend on tuning virtualized Microsoft SharePoint environments by 80%, slashes SharePoint provisioning by 4X, and reduces backup storage by 10-30X. VSPEX allows customers to choose the hypervisor, server, and network technology they prefer. It runs on EMC VNX and VNXe unified storage and supports EMC Data Domain, Avamar, and NetWorker backup and recovery systems. More

 

LenovoEMC JV Brings NAS to SMBs and Distributed Enterprise Sites

Lenovo and EMC Corp. have completed the formation of LenovoEMC Ltd., the joint venture announced in August, along with a wider strategic partnership in industry-standard servers and NAS systems. LenovoMC includes the core assets of EMC’s Iomega business and will bring co-branded NAS solutions to distributed enterprise, remote branches, and SMBs. More

 

RSA Publishes Security Recommendations in Face of Increased Cloud, Social, Mobile, and Big Data Adoption

The RSA division of EMC Corp. has released a special report from the Security for Business Innovation Council (SBIC) assessing how disruptive innovations such as Big Data analytics, cloud computing, enterprise mobility, and social media will transform enterprise IT and impact information security strategies. The report is derived from the expertise and real-world experiences of 19 security leaders in leading security organizations. The report provides four security strategies to enable business innovation over the next year. More

 

Healthcare VDI Provider Chooses HP Converged Infrastructure

ITX Enterprises Inc., a virtual desktop service provider in the behavioral health market, has selected HP Converged Infrastructure to host its private cloud and expand service delivery nationally. ITX provides the Pro-Filer behavioral health records management system to a consortium of 500 behavioral health professionals cross Utah, including secure online storage for client records, and invoice and payables generation for practitioners. It chose HP Converged Infrastructure to support its planned national roll-out of Pro-Filer by hosting a private cloud of virtual desktops. More

 

HP Vertica Announces Big Data Solutions Certification

HP has announced the first Big Data Solutions training and certification program for the HP Vertica Analytics Platform. Available through HP ExpertOne, the program helps organizations optimize Big Data by leveraging structured, semistructured, and unstructured data. Gartner projects that by 2015 Big Data demand will reach 4.4 million jobs globally, but only one-third of those jobs will be filled. This program can train and certify the skills and proficiency of HP Vertica system admins, database analysts, and application developers in Big Data analytics. More

 

Big Data Meets Steampunk in IBM Retail Analysis

IBM has announced that an analysis of more than a half million public posts on message boards, blogs, social media sites, and news sources has revealed the ‘steampunk’, a sub-genre inspired by the clothing, technology, and social mores of Victorian society, will become a major trend in the retail industry. Major fashion labels, accessories providers, and jewelry makers are expected to integrate a steampunk aesthetic into their designs starting this year. More

 

IBM Research Team Wins Feynman Prize for Advancing Scanning Probe Microscopy

IBM Researchers Gerhart Meyer, Leo Gross, and Jascha Repp (now at Regensburg University) have won the prestigious Feynman prize given by the Foresight Group to advance the study of nanotechnology. They won for their work in producing detailed molecular images and deconstructing chemical bonds on individual atoms. More

 

IBM Helps Signet Remake Jared Online

IBM and Signet Jewelers Ltd., the largest U.S. and U.K. specialty retail jeweler, have developed a major e-commerce strategy and digital marketing redesign for Signet chains Kay Jewelers and Jared the Galleria of Jewelry. The redesign has driven a year-over-year 49 percent increase in online sales. Signet engaged consultants from IBM Global Business Services and its digital consulting and design practice, IBM Interactive. More

Dell Retail Announces End-to-End System to Move Retailers to the Cloud

Dell has announced Cloud Client Computing for Retail, including endpoint devices, networking, security, virtualization, infrastructure, management tools, and services to help retailers move to the Cloud and realize increased efficiency and cost savings. The system is customizable to each retailer’s unique environment and needs and allows them to simplify store system hardware by hosting and managing complex point-of-sale and inventory systems centrally in the store or in the cloud. More
