Lenovo Clears Up RIM Acquisition Rumor

In today’s mobile news roundup: Lenovo speaks up regarding RIM acquisition rumors; Nokia enters paid music streaming with Music+; Apple to release a 128GB iPad; and Samsung to launch Galaxy Note 8.0 at MWC.

Lenovo speaks up regarding RIM acquisition

Last week, it was reported that Lenovo is eyeing RIM for an acquisition to boosts its mobile efforts.  Lenovo CFO Wong Waiming said in a statement that the company is looking into partnerships or even acquisitions, but the company has clarified that what was said was taken out of context by Bloomberg, the news source that originally reported the story.

“We are aware that Lenovo’s CFO [Wong] Waiming was speaking broadly about M&A strategy in a recent interview. RIM was raised as a potential target by the journalist and Mr. Wong repeatedly answered in a manner consistent with all of our previous statements on M&A strategy: Lenovo is very focused on growing its business, both organically and through M&A. When inorganic ideas arise, we explore them to see if there is a strategic fit,” Lenovo said in a statement to TheNextWeb.

RIM has also released a statement regarding the rumor stating that, though the focus is on releasing BlackBerry 10 and BB10 devices, the company is exploring all possible opportunities, such as entering a partnership, to ensure the success of its revamped operating system and brand.

Nokia enters paid music streaming with Music+

Nokia announced the arrival of Nokia Music+ a paid music streaming service that features unlimited skipping, unlimited download, higher quality of music, lyrics, and has an accompanying web app so you can listen to songs on your computer even without your phone, all for a monthly fee of $3.99.

If paying almost $4 isn’t your thing, don’t fret, Nokia Mix Radio still has a free option.
