Dell to Build 3 Pbyte High Performance Storage Infrastructure for Japan’s Advanced Institute of Science and Technology
Japan’s Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) has chosen dell Compellent arrays for a high-performance, large-capacity storage system for its private cloud environment supporting students and researchers. With an initial available capacity of three petabytes, it will be one of the largest Dell Compellent implementations. The new storage system will be part of FRONTIER (FRONT Information EnviRonment), a campus IT platform constructed to support graduate-level advanced study and research. Microsoft Computing Safety Index Shows Consumers Seldom Change Online Habits in Face of Security Risks
Fifty-five percent of global respondents to the second annual Microsoft Computing Safety Index (MCSI), released February 4, Safer Internet Day, face multiple online risks, yet only 16 percent say they take multiple proactive steps to protect themselves. This year, the MCSI also examined mobile safety behaviors, discovering that although 42 percent of respondents install software updates on their personal computers, only 28 percent install them on their mobile devices, potentially compounding their risk. Cisco Projects 13-Fold Growth in Global Mobile Internet Data Traffic by 2017
The just released Cisco Visual Networking Index Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast for 2012 to 2017 predicts that worldwide mobile data traffic will increase 13-fold over the next four years, reaching 11.2 exabytes per month, an annual run rate of 134 exabytes, by 2017. The growth is attributed partly to strong growth in the number of mobile Internet connections, including machine-to-machine applications, which will exceed the world’s population by 2017. more

CSC Wins SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic PII Pillar Contract
The U.S. Navy has awarded CSC and six other companies an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ICIQ) contract to provide acquisition and support services to Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) Atlantic. The contract has a one-year base period and four one-year options, for an estimated total value of $900 million for all companies if all options are exercised. Under the contract, CSC will compete for task orders to provide acquisition, installation, and follow-on support for command, control, communications, combat, and computer (C5) systems for DoD agencies worldwide, both ashore and afloat. WNS Announces Proposed Secondary Public Offering of ADSs by Warburg Pincus
WINS (Holdings) Ltd. Has announced that Warburg Pincus is proposing to offer 12,625,343 ADSs in an underwritten public offering. Warburg Pincus also intends to grant the underwriters of the proposed offering a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 1,893,801 ADSs to cover over-allotments, if any. WNS does not intend to offer any ADSs as part of this offering and will not receive any proceeds from it. Assuming the over-allotment option is exercised in full by the underwriters, Warburg Pincus will have no remaining shareholdings in WNS. More

Tata Consulting Engineers has acquired Ecofirst Services, a joint venture between Milestone Capital Advisors an the J. Leon Group (U.K.). With this acquisition, Ecofirst becomes a 100 percent subsidiary of Tata Consulting Engineers. Infosys Celebrates Brazilian Graduates
Infosys has announce the graduation of 39 Brazilian students from its Global Education center in Mysore, India. The regional Brazilian government of Minas Gerais collaborated with Infosys to send the group of students and young professionals to the center. Their training focused on Internet-based technologies. The center, one of the largest corporate training facilities in the world, trains close to 12,000 students each year. More
