EMC Introduces Pivotal HD Apache Hadoop Distribution

EMC has announced what it says is the world’s most powerful Apache Hadoop distribution, Pivotal HD, the integrated EMC Greenplum massively parallel processing (MPP) database technology natively with the Apache Hadoop framework. The EMC Greenplum-developed HAWQ technology brings a decade of large-scale management research and development to the platform to provide more than 100X performance improvements compared to existing SQL-like services on top of Hadoop, EMC says. More

 

RSA Announces Three SOC Systems to Manage Security Incidents

RSA, the Security Division of EMC, has announced three software systems for Security Operations Centers to manage security incidents faster and better. The new applications, part of the new RSA Security Analytics platform, are the RSA Advanced Incident Management for Security (AIMS), RSA Asset Criticality Intelligence (ACI), and RSA Data Discovery for Security Analytics. They provide organizations with deep content awareness of IT assets to help prioritize and focus threat and incident management. More

 

RSA, Juniper Networks Expand Technology Partnership

RSA and Juniper Networks have announced their intent to expand their technology partnership to address advanced threats and mobile security. The new program will include extensive intelligence sharing between the RSA Live threat intelligence delivery service and Juniper Networks Junos Spotlight Secure global attacker intelligence service. RSA plans to use this to extend threat visibility and analytics within RSA Security Analytics. More

 

HP Announces Android Consumer Tablet

HP has announced the HP Slate, an Android Jelly Bean consumer tablet that provides easy access to Google Mobile services. The new Slate has a seven-inch diagonal screen and weighs 13 ounces, has a stainless steel frame, and includes embedded Beats Audio. More

 

HP Announces Contextual Security Intelligence

HP has announced new offerings to provide contextual security intelligence from Big Data to better detect and prevent threats. It has integrated the security information and event management (SIEM) capabilities of HP ArcSight with the HP Autonomy IOL content analytics engine to create a system that automatically recognizes the context, concepts, sentiments, and usage patterns related to how users interact with data and bring meaning to raw security data. More

 

HP Sells webOS LG Electronics for Smart TVs

HP has sold the webOS operating system it acquired with Palm Inc. to LG Electronics Inc., which plans to use the technology in its next-generation Smart TV technology. As part of the agreement LG is acquiring the source code, associated documentation, engineering talent and related websites associated with webOS. LG also will receive licenses under HP’s intellectual property to use its webOS products, including patents acquired from Palm. More

 

Nokia Siemens, IBM Announce First Mobile Edge Computing Platform

Nokia Siemens Networks and IBM have announced a partnership to create what they call the world’s first mobile edge computing platform. It can run applications directly within a mobile base station, allowing mobile operators to create a unique mobile experience, relieve the ever-increasing strain on network infrastructure, and bring new products to market. It will accelerate the delivery of content directly from the base station, ensuring a superior user experience in the face of ever increasing data traffic. More
