American University of Kuwait Chooses EMC for IT Transformation

The American University of Kuwait (AUK) has chosen EMC and VMware virtualization and cloud infrastructure technologies to transform its IT infrastructure and manage mission-critical applications, including Microsoft Exchange 2010, Oracle, Luminis Portal, and LMS Moodle. It is using EMC VNX unified storage and Fast Suite and VMware vSphere. More


Google Global Impact Awards Hunt for U.K.’s Top Social Entrepreneurs

As the next step in its year-old Impact Awards, Google has announced its first Global Impact Challenge in the United Kingdom, inviting British nonprofits to submit proposals for using technology to transform lives. The four winners will each receive a £500,000 Google Impact Award, Chromebooks, and technical assistance from Google staff to help make their projects into realities. Google is accepting applications for the awards and will announce 10 finalists on May 22. More


Salesforce Releases Next Generation of Salesforce Chatter

Salesforce.com has announced the next version of Salesforce Chatter, allowing companies to access, create, and act on customer information in the Chatter feed from any mobile device. Customers including Design Within Reach, Kelly Services, Virgin America, and Vodafone Australia have deployed Chatter as their enterprise social network. More


Salesforce Announces Four-for-One Stock Split

The board of directors of Salesforce.com has approved a four-for-one split of the company’s common stock, and its stockholders have approved a proportional increase in the number of authorized shares of salesforce.com common stock from 400 million to 1.6 billion. Each stockholder of record at the close of business on April 2, 2013, will receive three additional shares for each outstanding share held on the record data. The additional shares are expected to be distributed by the transfer agent on April 17, and trading will begin on a split-adjusted basis on April 18. More


Southern Water Partners with TCS to Transform Customer Service, Revenue Management

Southern Water has selected Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to implement a customer services and revenue transformation program including front-and back-end technology deployments with internal process redevelopment. Southern Water will benefit from enhanced customer service capabilities, improved cash collection and debt management, and reduced operating expenditure. More

ACM, Infosys Foundation Honor Google Developers for Innovations that Transformed Internet-Scale Computing

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Infosys Foundation have announced that Jeffrey Dean and Sanjay Ghemawat are the recipients of the 2012 ACM-Infosys Foundation Award in Computing Sciences. They led the conception, design, and implementation of much of Google’s revolutionary software infrastructure, which underlies the company’s Web search and indexing, as well as numerous applications across the industry.
