GDC Brings Us Entertainment Overload to Xbox Live

Lawrence “Larry” Hryb, the Director of Programming for the Microsoft gaming network, more popularly known by his Xbox Live gamertag Major Nelson, announced a lot of entertainment goodies coming for Xbox live subscribers.

Game of Thrones overload

In time for the new season of Game of Thrones, Xbox Live subscribers can use their Windows 8 tablet or iPad as a second screen to unlock exclusive via the Xbox SmartGlass app.  Get to see interactive maps, detailed character guides, cast and crew commentaries, behind-the-scenes extras and much more.  Why would you want this?  Let’s be honest, the second season of Game of Thrones was shown last year.  Unless you have time to review all the episodes from season 1 and 2, having a second screen right at your fingertips would help you catch up on why Daenerys Targaryen is building an army and how she got her dragons back.  Available for Xbox Live subscriber in the US.

Swing batter, batter!

Baseball fans would appreciate the refreshed MLB.TV.  IT now features a full view of game progress with base-runners and pitch-count, a quick view of the day’s MLB action with game progress including scores, base-runners and upcoming games, and is now more personalized as it delivers live games, clips and highlights, and game recaps of your favorite teams as the app instantly starts up with the things you’ve personally selected.  Available for Xbox Live subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Australia, Germany, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Japan, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Russia, Poland, Colombia, Chile, South Africa, and the Czech Republic.

Indie hub

Earlier this month, the British film Pulp debuted as the first original movie available for Xbox Live subscribers.  Now, IndieFlix will be the go to place for people who loves discovering award-winning independent movies, shorts, documentaries, animation and web series from around the world.  Available for Xbox Live subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand.

The best shows on the web

Revision 3 has landed on Xbox 360.  Now, you can watch the best shows on the Internet right on your console.  And with the use of the Kinect for Xbox 360, control shows with a wave of your hand or the sound of your voice.  Available in US, Australia, and Canada.

Only in the US

For no additional cost, other than your Xbox LIVE Gold subscription, you can stream hundreds of movies from various genres such as comedy, action, thriller, romance, and family via Popcornflix on Xbox 360.  And if you have little kids running around the house that you want to calm, just choose from the thousands of family-friendly movies found at Toys”R”Us Movies.

Earlier this year, Xbox Live was pumped up with entertainment coming from  NHL GameCenter, Neon Alley, Telemundo, Crunchyroll, Slacker, Redbox Instant by Verizon, GameTrailers, CanalPlay Infinity and VEVO TV.  And as 2013 progresses, we can expect more entertainment portals coming to Xbox Live.
