HP Announces BoD Changes

HP has announced that Raymond J. Lane has stepped down as chairman of the board, to be replaced on an interim basis by Ralph V. Whitworth. The Board is searching for a permanent non-executive board chairman. Additionally John H. Hammergren and G. Kennedy Thompson have decided to leave the board after the May board meeting, and the board is searching for two or more new independent directors. Lane’s resignation makes the role of lead independent director unnecessary. It is being eliminated and Rajiv L. Gupta, who presently holds that office, will replace Thompson as chairman of the Audit Committee. Gary M. Reiner will replace Gupta as chairman of the Nominating and Governance Committee, and Whitworth will become chairman of the Finance and Investment Committee. More


IBM Blue Gene/Q Supports Largest Biomedical Initiative in Poland

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modeling, University of Warsaw (ICM) has chosen the IBM Blue Gene/Q, the most powerful single-architecture supercomputer in Poland, to support the country’s largest biomedical and biotechnological research initiative. Called the “Centre for Preclinical Research and Technology (CePT), it combines more than 500 life sciences and biomedical researchers, physicians, and students,from three universities and seven research centers of the Polish Academy of Sciences, led by the Medical University of Warsaw. More

the Obama for America campaign used Microsoft Linc as the communications platform for hundreds of campaign staff in its Chicago headquarters and in some states for the 2012 elections. The campaign needed to upgrade from a PBX to a more flexible cloud-based solution that could scale & adapt to support thousands of mission-critical calls in multiple locations simultaneously. More


Cisco Expands Commitment to Myanmar

Cisco is expanding its commitment to Myanmar with an investment in a channel partner network and appointment of the first two Cisco Network Academies at the University of Computer Studies, Yangon and University of Computer Studies, Mandalay. The establishment of the Networking Academy Program in Myanmar is being supported through Cisco’s long-term partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). More

Cisco has announced its intent to acquire privately held Ubiquisys, headquartered in Swindon, U.K. Ubiquisys is a provider of intelligent 3G and long-term evolution (LTE) small-cell technologies providing seamless connectivity across mobile heterogeneous networks for science providers. The acquisition reinforces Cisco’s commitment to service providers & strengthens its mobility expertise to deliver more intelligent mobile internet networks. More


SAP Plans delivery of Accelerated Reporting and Real-Time Information

SAP has announced availability of SAP liveCache technology powered by HANA to drive real-time, insight-driven planning processes. This new component of HANA is intended to deliver opportunities for deployments of the SAP Advanced Planning and Optimizer (SAP APO) component and follows other recent efforts SAP has made to demonstrate continued innovation and investment in supply chain management. More


SAP, Partners Focus on Industry 4.0 Integrated IT Solutions at Hannover Messe

SAP and its partners will present comprehensive software systems for the manufacturing industry at Hannover Messe, April 8-12 in Hanover, Germany. SAP’s focus in booth D04, Hall 7, at this year’s conference will be “Industry 4.0” connecting industrial manufacturing and IT through cyber-physical production systems. PwC U.S. IPO Watch Sees Late March IPO Surge

The last two weeks of March saw a surge in U.S. IPO activity, closing out a strong first quarter. Total IPO proceeds raised in the United States i 1Q13 exceeded the same quarter in 2012 despite a decrease in the volume of IPOs according to IPO Watch, a quarterly and annual survey of IPOs listed on U.S. stock exchanges published by PwC US.
