Week In Review : OpenStack Rallies the Troops Against AWS

The OpenStack Summit in Portland has reflected the amazing growth of the platform and highlights that it’s this open source cloud solution’s time to stand in the sun. SiliconANGLE founder John Furrier makes that clear in his editorial outlining the powers that be are more than just embracing OpenStack, they’re lining up to be part of the ecosystem. Climbing on board we see ServiceMesh singing on for enterprise-grade management; RackSpace’s Jim Curry thinks very highly of OpenStack; and NetApp has a prototype for a file-share service. For those looking for a history lesson, the development and growth of early OpenStack (and its NASA celebrity) make for some fine reading.

For those who prefer to live vicariously, much of the conference coverage can be seen on YouTube [playlist.]

In technology news, the Samsung Galaxy S4 stacks up against the iPhone 5. From there, the tragedy in Boston has left its mark and technology is bridging the human response from community support via Reddit (write up by Kyt Dotson) and how the FBI is using crowdsourcing to help catch the bomber (Mike Wheatley.) Also from Mike Wheatley it seems that Anonymous is also making their own ventures into crowdfunding to start a news site for the collective that’s already netted more than $54,000. In mobile technology, Kristen Nicole believes that Nokia should stick with Windows 8; the partnership has treated both companies well well and the mobile giant wears it brilliantly. Bert Latamore quotes CIO Scott Lowe about the positioning of HP’s Moonshot–it’s not for ordinary mainstream data center apps.
