EMC Reports Record 1Q Revenues, Reaffirms 2013 Business Outlook

EMC has reported 1Q13 revenue of $5.39 billion, a 6% increased year-to-year and a record for the company. GAAP net revenues attributable to EMC were $580 million, and earnings per diluted share were $0.26. Non-GAAP net income attributable to EMC was %850 million, a 4% year-to-year increase, and non-GAAP diluted share earnings were $0.39, a 5% year-to-year increase. More


HP WebInspect 10.0 Helps Clients Identify Vulnerabilities in Web Apps

HP has announced WebInspect 10.0, an application-security system that replicates real-world attacks through a guided testing process, enabling organizations to develop and deliver secure Web applications and services. Web applications remain a substantial source of security vulnerabilities. From 2000 to 2012, four of the six most reported vulnerabilities were exploitable via the Web. HP WebInspect 10.0 is an automated, configurable application security system that dynamically tests Web applications and services to identify exploitable security vulnerabilities quickly & accurately. More

HP has announced the new HP ExpertOne Accredited Technical Associate (ATA) — IT Business certification to help business students prepare for a job market in which technology insight is critical to achieving business objectives. IDC states that as organizations rely on management of Big Data to meet their customers’ needs, marketing and IT must work together to achieve business objectives. The HP ATA–IT for Business certification empowers the next generation of business professionals with an understanding of IT concepts to help facilitate this alignment and address the skills gap. HP Announces TippingPoint NX Series Expansion to Mitigate Cyber-Risks

HP has announced the expansion of the HP TippingPoint NX Series Next Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NGIPS) portfolio with new appliances that expedite the detection, identification, and mitigation of network security threats. Traditional network security approaches have proven inefficient at mitigating risk and blocking disruptive attacks. the new HP S7500NX, HP S6200NX, and HP S2600NX NGIPS appliances cover data transfer speeds of 20Gbps, 10Gbps, and 2Gbps respectively. The 20Gbps appliances provides one of the industry’s highest data transmission levels in a two-rack-unit form factor. More


Seguros El Norte Updates IT Infrastructure with IBM PureSystems

El Norte S.A., a major Argentine insurer, will deploy IBM PureSystems to improve its IT infrastructure and support deployment of new customer-facing applications. It will use PureSystems to support a new intranet portal to integrate IBM Connections social capabilities and an external site for greater social interaction with customers. More


IBM Labs Unveils Smart Mobility Maintenance, Repair and Operations Prototype

Scientists from IBM Labs have demonstrated a mobile maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) prototype designed to help manufacturers, suppliers, and maintainers of high-value machinery in sectors such as aerospace, oil & gas, and shipping. The mobile system uses a combination of augmented reality and robotics to help field engineers locate equipment, and gather critical information & provide real-time visual support for remote supervising experts. IBM Donates Watson System to Rensselaer Grad School

IBM is collaborating with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has donated a Watson system to support a new Master of Science in Business Analytics degree offered by the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The new program is designed to equip graduates to fill some of the nearly 2 million Big Data-related jobs that, says Gartner Inc., will be created by 2015. The new degree is a one-year, 30-credit graduate program. More

Cisco Enhances Videoscape Architecture in India with Apalya Tech Video Delivery

Cisco has added live TV and mobile video capabilities to its Cisco Videoscape architecture in India by integrating the Video Delivery Platform from Apalya Technologies Private Ltd., a managed service provider of video streaming to telecom operators, handset manufacturers, and content owners. The capability was demonstrated last week at the Cisco Video Summit in New Delhi, an annual event of the company’s customers and partners in the cable and broadcast sector. More


Cisco Announces New Storage Networking to Support Cloud, Big Data

Cisco has announced new SAN systems that deliver higher performance, scalability, and reliability to support cloud and Big Data requirements. They include the Cisco MDS 9710 Multilayer Director that delivers three times the bandwidth of any other storage director in the industry, according to Cisco. It also announced the MDS 9250i Multiservice Fabric Switch, which improves efficiency by performing important storage networking services in the SAN fabric. More
