Microsoft Rebranding Video Shouldn’t Be Dismissed – Breaking Analysis

In Norway, Windows Phone design studio general manager Albert Shum and Todd Simmons, creative director at Wolff Olins, revealed a two-year old concept video regarding the “re-imagining” of Bing, Skype, Yammer, and Xbox.

The redesigning of the other Microsoft products comes just a year after refreshing its Windows, Office and Microsoft brand logos.  As mentioned earlier, the concept video is two years old and no news yet as to when, or if, we’ll be seeing the redesigned logos in the near future.  Still, you can’t help but wonder if the redesigned Xbox logo will be appearing on the new 720, which is set to be revealed on May 21st.  And also, what does this re-imaging mean for Microsoft?

Joining Kristin Feledy on Monday’s NewsDesk was SiliconANGLE Contributing Editor John Casaretto, whose breaking analysis sheds more light on the apparent re-imagining of Microsoft’s products and services.

Casaretto stated that though the concept video is old, it shouldn’t be dismissed as it clearly showed how the product and service logo redesign goes well with Microsoft’s new flattened and colorful look.  He also mentioned that Microsoft is following the Nike route, sticking to a logo that works and is well recognized across the globe.

“I think what they’re trying to do, they’re talking about reaching out to people and trying to add some choices, they’re going past the shift from their past and target consumers in a more meaningful way, in a way that really integrates a little bit more with what people are doing with the Internet and doing with software products nowadays and that extends even into gaming as we’ll see here with the Xbox if they indeed do launch a new logo.  It will be pretty interesting to see that this is kinda setting a new tone for something new from Microsoft,” Casaretto stated.

As for the soon-to-be-revealed Xbox 720, it seems Microsoft has decided to take video gaming “social”, with the latest rumors being that gamers will be able to “follow” other Xbox users .
