Interop Expo Prepares CIOs for Hyperscale Paradigm Shift – Breaking Analysis

With so much attention being focused on at EMC World, it’s easy to lose track of what else is happening in the world of Big Data. However, just down the Las Vegas strip a very different, but very prodigious event is taking place – the 27th annual Interop Trade Fair.

Unlike EMC World, Interop is run by London-based media company UBM who, by their very essence, focuses on live media, interopability, and business-to-business communications.  UMC’s focal point is really on marketing services and data provision, so  their event is less innvolved with upcoming products like EMC’s, and more about empowering IT professionals and CIOs with the crucial knowledge of emerging technologies to make smart business decisions.

Our very own Scott Lowe has been on the floor, and he summed up the event nicely on this morning’s NewsDesk; “There’s actually some business marketplaces that don’t use any of the buzzword lingo.”  He went on to add, “There’s some interesting and nice developments that we have seen as well,” – a sentiment which goes to show that even smaller companies can be relevant in the cloud frontier.

Lowe commented on his immediate takeaways of the event, saying, “[there is a] need to start thinking about what’s going to be a pretty significant paradigm shift a little further out, and to start preparing staff, budgets and organizations for some of those shifts.” He continued, “Scale is going to be a big deal moving forward, especially as organizations put more demands on their IT functions.”

To further juxtapose Interop from EMC, much of the focus on scalable data seems to be directed toward smaller organizations and how they will interface with the cloud, as opposed to the industry titans like EMC (who many are saying will likely become the cloud-data version of IBM).

Really, it goes to show that the modern era of software led infrastructure is still in its infancy, where modest prospectors and (data)mining tyxoons alike will both play a role in forging the future of technology, and how we will interact with it in the years to come.
