LIVE: U.S. Government Budget Sequester Could Prove Good For Cloud Services

On today’s SiliconANGLE’s Live NewsDesk Show, (see embed feed below or visit youtube.com/siliconangle to watch on-demand), we learn about how the U.S. Federal Government’s budget sequestration is starting to have an impact on the IT community.

Recent earnings tech companies announcements have blamed softness in government spending on weak returns. That is supported by a report to Congress earlier this year where the Office of Management and Budget deputy director Jeffrey Zients, said the $85 billion in government-wide cuts would translate into budget reductions from 2 percent in Medicare to 7.9 percent in non-exempt defense programs. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to put two-and-two together that with a budget sequester, the long-tail effects include a decrease in the purchases of IT goods and services by federal agencies. An underlying story here is how agencies will shift more of their remaining budget from on-premises software deployments to cloud services even faster because of the budget cuts.

Joining us now to tell us more about the U.S. Federal Government’s budget sequester and what it means to the IT community is Wikibon Senior Analyst Stu Miniman. (See the live broadcast, embed below ~ if you missed today’s topic, check our YouTube channel for archived clips.)

Some of the things we’ll be discussing with Minman include the effects the sequestration has had on IT budgets, the IT segments benefiting from the sequester, scalability and how it impacts budgeting.
