Lifelogging Tools for the Self-Quantified Lifestyle: Become a Better You

Sometimes, everything just gets out of hand.  You find yourself always running out of time to do anything.  It’s like 24 hours a day isn’t enough to get things accomplished.  Am I right?  Or are we just not managing our time correctly?

I think it’s the latter.  Sometimes, we don’t notice this, but we spend so much time inefficiently, like playing hours of Candy Crush.  Then we go into panic mode, cursing our self-inflicted mismanagement.

But in today’s world of smart devices and smarter apps, we’re able to better track our own activity so we can make smarter decisions throughout the day.  Here are some useful mobile apps for those interested in improving their time management through self-quantified concepts.

Saga

This iOS and Android app is an automatic lifelogging tool, which means it does everything for you, no checkins required.  You go on with your day, do the things you need to do, and the apps logs activities for you to review later.  It is integrated with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, BodyMedia, FitBit, RunKeeper, TripIt, Withings and Foursquare, so almost everything you do gets logged. Of course, there’s built-in privacy settings so you have control as to what will be shared to your peers.

You can review your logs to see how have you been spending your day and if those activities are included in your daily goals.  By reviewing your logs, you can eliminate activities that do not contribute to your productivity, and replace them with ones that will help you become a better person, or at least feel good about yourself.

Lift

This is an iPhone app (a web-based app is in the works), that helps people identify their good or bad habits, achieve goals, track progress and even get peers involved in the process for some positive reinforcement.  So let’s say, you have an addiction to Candy Crush.  You still want to play the game, but also be able to do other stuff.  This app helps you identify good habits, like if you want to go for a walk everyday for 30 minutes to an hour, or limit your play time.  You can do that with this app, and track your progress to see if you are able to keep your goals.

Memoto

This small camera accompanied by a mobile app lets you take photos of every moment of your life, as long as you’re wearing that little camera.  It helps you log your life, the app organizes it for you, so you can always remember what you’ve been doing and avoid those hangover moments where you can’t remember anything that happened in the last 24 hours.

Though this little gadget doesn’t seem to do much in helping you accomplish tasks, by reviewing the logs, you’ll know what activities you’ve been wasting your time on instead of actually doing worthwhile stuff.  It’s good for people who have poor memory, as well as keeping your life in check.  Sometimes, all we need is different point of view to help us remember that there’s more to life than just sitting around all day in front of your computer.

There are other apps that help you keep track of your activities and help you reach your goals.  It’s up to you to choose which ones suit you best.  So, happy lifelogging!
