On today’s SiliconANGLE Live NewsDesk Show, (see embed feed below or visit youtube.com/siliconangle to watch on-demand), we learn about Jolla’s first Sailfish OS smartphone.
This is Jolla’s first smartphone. It will go on sale this year for €399 (roughly $510). The smartphone will run Jolla’s MeeGo-derived Sailfish OS, it features a 4.5-inch display, a dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera, LTE (in selected markets), removable back covers, 16GB of onboard storage, and a microSD slot. Jolla has said that the handset will be “compliant” with Android apps, but that gives us zero indication as to how many or where users will be able to download them from. Currently the launch plans call for a select few European countries’ release only, but Jolla has indicated it plans to expand on that in the future.
Joining us now to tell us more about the first Sailfish OS smartphone from Jolla is SiliconANGLE’s Contributing Editor John Casaretto. (See the live broadcast, embed below ~ if you missed today’s live topic, check our YouTube channel for archived clips.)
Some of the things we’ll be discussing with Casaretto include the Sailfish OS, the smartphone’s mood ring-like adaptability where the OS interacts with the phone’s visual appearance, specs and features, the flooded OS market, and finally pricing and release.
