LIVE: Kim Dotcom Steals Twitter’s Limelight, Claims Patent on 2-Step Security Authentication

On today’s SiliconANGLE Live NewsDesk Show, (see live feed below or visit youtube.com/siliconangle to watch on-demand), we discuss Twitter FINALLY implementing two-step authentication for users to protect their accounts.

Two-step authentication means those who activate it will be required to enter a second, six-digit passcode sent via SMS each time they attempt to login to their accounts from an unknown device. Users can activate login verification by heading to their account settings page. Select the “Require a verification code when I sign in” option, provide your email address and phone number, and then click on the email verification link Twitter sends to finalize the activation.

The twist you didn’t see coming: within hours of Twitter’s two-step authentication announcement, Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom tweeted that he owned the copyright behind two-step verification, and that US companies including Twitter, Facebook, Google and others were infringing on his copyright.

Joining us now to tell us more about Twitter’s new security measures is SiliconANGLE Senior Managing Editor Kristen Nicole. (See the live broadcast, embed below ~ if you missed today’s topic, check our YouTube channel for archived clips.)

Some of the things we’ll be discussing with Nicole include, how the two-step authentication works, whether it will protect against future hacking attempts, and just how valid is MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom about his patent infringement claims?
