WinWire CEO On the Converge of Collaboration, Mobile and Analytics

Ashu Goel, the chief executive officer of WinWire Technologies, stopped by theCube at the recent Appcelerator launch event to provide his take on three of the hottest trends in IT: collaboration, mobile and Big Data.

Goel starts the interview by offering a little background on his company, a provider of enterprise collaboration and analytics solutions that started out as a web development firm. He tells SiliconAngle correspondent Jeff Frick that WinWire has worked on making information actionable for the past six years.

The firm’s two areas of focus are among the most ‘common themes’ in the enterprise, according to Goel. He highlights that corporate users have to be able to collaborate with their colleagues, even if they travel frequently, and they must have access to vital business information on-the-go. Mobile devices provide a platform for the technologies that can address these needs.

Frick brings up the growing adoption of mobile-first strategies in the enterprise and asks Goel about the way this trend has affected users. The executive explains:

“In the traditional enterprise we used to build a lot of large, monolithic applications to solve problems. That world is completely changed now. If you really take a look at your phone, on average you’ve got 70 to 80 different micro-apps. You don’t go to www.weather.com, you just go to your weather app and you have immediate information available today. That’s what going on in the enterprise too: people who are on the move are looking for these applications that deliver information to them…when they need it.”

Goel says that mobile-first and mobile-only app design is picking up because the majority of organizations have recognized mobility as a source of competitive advantage. He advises CIOs to avoid biting off more than they can chew: in his experience, the best course of action is to start out small.
