LIVE: Can Gorilla Glass Lids and Phablets Help Asus in Hybrid Device Market?

On today’s SiliconANGLE Live NewsDesk Show, (see live feed below or visit youtube.com/siliconangle to watch on-demand), we talk about Asus, which over the weekend at Computex 2013 in Taipei, made a slew of announcements regarding new products it will be bringing to market. Those products include:

  • Memo Pad HD7, a Nexus 7 with a rear camera for $129
  • FonePad Note: 6-inch 1080p display, dual-core 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB RAM
  • Zenbook Infinity official with a Gorilla Glass 3 lid, touchscreen and backlit keyboard
  • Asus announces new Transformer Pad Infinity with 2560 x 1600 display

Asus is hitting three of the four smart-device markets: laptop, tablets and convertible laptop-tablet. With these three product announcements it seems Asus has been hard at work. But the real shake-down will be if and when it improves its positioning in the market. The Zenbook Infinity, a new laptop with a planned release in Q4, boasts a Gorilla Glass 3 lid. Will this lid help Asus gain market share? Its FonePad Note has a stylus and size comparable to the Galaxy Note 2 and front-facing speakers like the HTC One — will the Android tablet prove a game-changer?

Joining us now to tell us more about the is SiliconANGLE Contributing Editor John Casaretto. (See the live broadcast, embed below ~ if you missed today’s topic, check our YouTube channel for archived clips.)

Some of the things we’ll be discussing with Casaretto include the market potential of the Gorilla Glass lid, the differences between Asus’ latest Memo Pad and comparable products like the Nexus 7, the details on the FonePad Note news, and whether or not Asus’ new phablet will be a hit.
