Zettaset, Informatica Partner to Drive Value from Hadoop Deployments
Data integration software vendor Informatica Corp has announced an OEM partnership with Zettaset, a provider of secure Big Data management. Zettaset is embedding the Informatica PowerCenter Big Data Edition within the Zettaset Orchestrator Hadoop cluster management system, which automates, accelerates, and simplifies Hadoop installation, cluster management, and security for Big Data deployments. The Informatica Orchestrator will provide Zettaset customers with streamlined, simplified Big Data integration to allow them to move & integrate data into their Apache distribution-based Hadoop implementations regardless of data volume, variety, and velocity. HP Announces Intelligent WiFi for Mobile Operators
HP has announced intelligent WiFi technology designed for mobile network operators (MNOs) to provide to customers to supplement their mobile telephony services. Most MNOs today use WiFi only as basic backhaul for handling large data files. The HP technology goes beyond this to offer a wide set of modules that can be used independently or together to enable services such as WiFi offloads. More
HP Selected to Power Oriental DreamWorks
HP has been selected as the official technology partner to Oriental DreamWorks, the joint venture between the China consortium led by China Media Capital (CMC) and Hollywood’s DreamWorks Animation. Oriental DreamWorks will become a China-based family brand that regularly creates entertainment in China, for China and for export worldwide. The company will be based in Shanghai. More
Government of Catalonia Awards HP $67 Million Contract
HP will transform the computing environment of the Generalitat de Catalunya (CTTI), the government of Catalonia, to a cloud infrastructure to support more efficient delivery of improved services to citizens under an $67 million agreement. Under the 10-year contract, HP Enterprise Services Spain will move CTTI’s infrastructure from a dedicated, client-owned data center to a secure, HP-managed virtual private cloud located in Barcelona. HP is expanding its managed cloud services to Spain as an extension of the HP Enterprise CLoud Services network already deployed in other European countries. More
IBM Ranked First in BI, Analytics in Asia/Pac
IT analyst firm CapioIT has ranked IBM #1 in its 2013 Asia Pacific Business Intelligence and Analytics Solution Providers Capture Share Report. The analysis included 17 metrics from a variety of stakeholders and sources, including solution providers, clients, and end-users, on 13 solution providers. IBM earned the top spot for the quality of its capabilities and attributes, and the report cited a significant gap between IBM and the rest of the market, including Accenture, Infosys, HP, Deloitte, and TCS. IBM Harnesses Big Data to Improve Dutch Flood Control, Water Management
IBM has announced Digital Delta, a breakthrough innovation program to apply insights from Big Data to transform flood control and management of the entire Dutch water system. The program is a collaboration with Rijkswaterstaat (the Dutch Ministry of Water) local Water Authority Delfland, Deltares Science Institute, and the University of Delft. It will investigate integrating and analyzing water data from a wide range of existing sources including precipitation measurements, water level and water quality monitors, levee sensors, radar data, model predictions, and current and historical maintenance data from sluices, pumping stations, locks and dams. Dell has issued its FY2013 Corporate Responsibility Summary Report chronicling its environmental progress and efforts to support communities globally. Built on its Powering the Possible platform, a commitment to put technology & expertise to work where they can do the most good for people & the planet, Dell recorded a year of strong environmental achievements. It reached a long-term goal of collecting 1 billion pounds of electronic waste a year ahead of schedule and met its strict packaging reduction commitments. It also was one of the first vendors to introduce EPEAT-registered printers, setting a high industry standard for sustainability. More
Microsoft Announces Previews of R2 Corporate Software at TechEd Europe
Microsoft Server & Tools Corporate VP Brad Anderson announced availability of preview software for Windows Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2, and SQL Server 2014, part of the next generation of Microsoft enterprise IT systems designed to break down boundaries across customer and service provider data centers and the public cloud. The software is available for download on the Microsoft Web Site. Microsoft also announced that Telefonica, DDM, and ARM Holdings used Microsoft devices and services to reduce costs, improve mobility, and fuel business growth. More
Microsoft Announces Yammer Growth on Acquisition Anniversary
On the first anniversary on its acquisition of Yammer, Microsoft has announced several growth highlights. These include a 55% growth in registered users to 8 million, a 200% increase in paid networks, and a doubling of user activity on Yammer from a year ago. More
